“Shut The Sash” Saves Net $21,000!!!

From the Spring “Shut the Sash” Fume Hood Campaign in Tan Kan Kee Hall, Tan Hall’s energy use declined by 5.1%, or 19,000 kWh!

Tan occupants will be awarded with a fruit and cheese party!

Since the fume hood campaign started, in October 2007, Tan Hall’s researchers have contributed to 207,000 kWh in reduced energy use, equivalent to $21,000 in avoided energy costs!

The “Shut the Sash” fume hood campaign is an awareness project that seeks to educate lab technicians, researchers, students, faculty, and staff about the importance of closing the sash on fume hoods when they are not in use to realize substantial energy savings. The project just started this semester with Tan hall. The campaign is a collaborative effort between Green Campus, Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S), the Chemistry Department, and the Physics Department.

Haas Energy Challenge Results!

In the month of April, Haas had reduced their energy use by 11.3% in comparison to last year (10.9% in comparison to an average of the past four years). This is a savings of 30,000 kWh or $3,000!

Great Job to Haas students, staff, and faculty for doing their part!

In the fall semester, an ice cream sundae party will be rewarded in the Haas School of Business for blowing out the highest tier goal of 7%!

The campaign involves educating staff and faculty how to easily reduce their energy consumption in the Haas School of Business.

This challenge will involve several structural and educational outreach projects within the school and prizes for reducing their energy use below previous levels.

Congratulations to our 2 graduating green campus interns, Desirae Early and Vi Do.

DesGrad

Desirae has been with the green campus program for 4 years and has been a great asset to the team ever since green campus started in 2004, our team lead for this year, main coordinator for the ER 199 course, and many other projects. She graduated with a major in Environmental Economics and Policy and a minor in Conservation Resource Studies. She has accepted a job with Pacific Gas and Electric and will be working as an Associate Project Manager under the Customer Energy Efficiency Division working on Target Markets on programs in Universities/Schools, Retail, and Hospitality.

ViGrad

Vi has been with the green campus program for 2 years and has also been a great team member, heading up the successful fume hood campaign and many other successful projects. She graduated with a double major in Economics and Political Science. She has accepted a job in San Fransisco as an economic consultant.

Congratulations to our successful program coordinators, Vi and Desirae, we will miss you both and hope the best of luck in the future!
